The Home Depot is run by IDIOTS

So here is my morning in a nutshell:

I got to Home Depot a few minutes before the appointment I’ve scheduled a week in advance. I go to the kitchen cabinetry section and patiently wait for the of the kitchen designer I made the appointment with to show up. Fifteen minutes after my appointment deadline I start getting the feeling that I’ve been brushed off.

After another ten minutes of pacing between the kitchen cabinetry section and the kitchen appliances section, hoping to run into one of the ‘well-educated and professional workers’, I finally catch a rep from the appliances section and ask for her help locating the missing cabinetry designer I’ve been waiting too long for. She asks who it was and I give the designer’s name and she said, “She called in sick this morning.”

Fucking fantastic…

Home Depot worker: “Didn’t you get a phone call?”

I’m standing there like ‘If I got a phone call I wouldn’t be here‘.

Okay, so I have these cabinet schematics already printed out and I ask if I could just leave them there, have her make up the computer mockup, and then call me back in to make small tweaks like wood color and styles. I want to know which of their styles are within my price range.

“No, you have to know what you want before they make it.”

“So, you mean if I think ‘something looks good’ and she builds it on her computer, then it turns out to be beyond what I’m willing to pay, I then have to pick another and start the whole process all over again? You can’t just take the measurements and give me a rough idea of how much it would cost with different options?”

Home Depot worker: “No, that’s not how we do it.”

Me: “Funny, that’s how Do It Best, Paulson’s Hardware, and GF Lumber did it.”

Fucking brilliant.

So next I ask the most logical question: “What are the general prices for these different cabinet types? How much is Style A compared to Style B?”

Home Depot person: “Those are low, those are medium, and these are high.”

Me: ?????? “What exactly is low, medium and high? If, say, I buy just one cabinet door, how much is the price difference between low, medium and high?”

HD: “I’m not sure, you will have to have the designer build your kitchen on the computer first.”

Do you see the circular logic yet?

Me: “Okay, I drove to the other side of town for this, so is there another guy I can talk to?”

HD: “The other designer is at lunch.”

Me: “When will he be back?”

HD: “In an hour and a half.”

WTF? Who takes an hour and a half lunch break????

Fuck it. Home Depot is jerking me around. I’ll give them ONE more chance to straighten everything out, then I’ll move on to find people who:

A) Are competent.

B) Actually want my business.
