I noticed how all of the unreleased Hellsing DVDs were a hell of a lot cooler looking, artistically. Like CineMax said, it's cleaner, and highly detailed. But I'm guessing that the English DVDs (Hellsing = the only anime I've ever bothered to buy) are still stuck in limbo?

Conclusion: Why do I get the feeling that even ONOE would call this stuff tasteless weeaboo crap? No, seriously, come on! Lollis, cat-people, pedophilia — that's something I — a Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, Black Lagoon, and Hellsing (i.e., animes with some actual depth, complexity, and kick-ass action scenes) fan — will a hundred percent enjoy?

I suggest these. Elfin Lied is considered one of the most sadistic animes of all time. There's no shortness of decapitations and dismemberment while at its heart the disturbing and sad tale of murderous creatures are only half as uncaring and evil as the majority of the people they encounter. Jin Roh The Wolf Brigade is a tale of love and loyalty in a facist 1950's German occupied Japan where the main character has to choose between a girl and loyalty to his armored brigade. Attachment:

Gungrave is a supernatural mafia tale that crosses Scarface with genetic engineering. Grave was once the best friend of the ambitious rising mafia figurehead Harry, but after being killed by Harry he comes back as an animated corps to fight Harry's legion of mutant bodyguards and get revenge. But don't think that Gungrave is cut and dry gunplay and camp because this anime has one of the deepest stories of all time. Attachment:

Devil May Cry is all action with no strings attached. Laughingman and Onoe complained of the series being light on plot and character but its fun to watch the gunplay. Attachment:

Cobra is just a personal favorite of mine because it has it all. Scifi, the lead character is cool like Indiana Jones, and the plots have action, sex and depth. Attachment:

I've seen Gun.Grave about a year or so ago (another anime nut friend recommending shows for me to watch). Despite its really stupid premise (bio-engineered zombies) it's actually really freaking good (storytelling and character development). It follows the lives of the two main characters, Harry and Brandon, and them growing up together, fighting other gangs, getting a break and becoming mafia, and after the success they start getting suspicious of eachother. Harry, corrupted with power, gets paranoid and kills Brandon, but the friend is brought back to life midway through. Then it's kind of like the last part of Scarface, like Willrain said, where they both have their lives and successes crumble around them. It's all of the characters, how they evolve over the course of the series, and their alliances with Harry or Brandon that make the show work. And gunplay action is the ONLY thing Devil May Cry has going for it... All 30 seconds for every 30 minute episode. @Cobra Attachment:

@willrainNow that's more like it! Personally, you've got me intrigued with Gungrave (hey, there's nothing better than an action packed series with character development, depth, and complexity) and Jin Roh (I'm a sucker for profound dramas that take a look on some controversial topic like Nazis, War, etc., and present it from a different, never-before-seen perspective, e.g., Schindler's List)! Not sure about Cobra, though, since I've never really been a fan of campy sci-fi shows like Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon (yet I'm a loyal Doctor Who nut — go figure! ) As for Elfin Lied, I dunno. I keep hearing how it's one of the most brutal, bleak, yet profound animes out there, but, somehow, I just could never get myself to watching it (partly it's the animation style, partly it's, once again, the lollis). I guess I still haven't gotten rid of all my prejudices...

I would be lying if I said that I don't have an interest in watching and possibly reviewing Gungrave.
