CONTRIBUTORS: Make Money Writing for CheshireCatStudios

I made mention of this to Zimes, Kenny and ONOE but I don't know if I mentioned it to anyone else:

To give reviewers incentive to not only write reviews, articles, and whatnot for CheshireCatstudios, but to also actively try to get more people to read them, we are allowing reviewers to post Google Ads WITHIN their reviews (2 ads MAX: 1 horizontal, 1 vertical).

While we've attempted to keep the site from looking like a $2 hooker, there is the possibility for users to make money here while keeping the ads fairly discreet.

My theory is that contributors will be allowed to post their own ad-revenue system into the space under the navigation, AND possibly a vertical ad in a right-hand column, giving them the ability to make money off of any present and future reviews, articles, news clips, etc that they create.

During the Ad-Click Rush in early 2010 when I was attempting to purchase a sitemap generator for this site, I made nearly $60 in two weeks, and HALF of it came within the FIRST THREE DAYS (thanks everyone!). There is no reason why we can't make some money for our efforts.

The prospects for making money is also incentive for a contributor to get his or her friends to read their reviews or watch their video series. If we couple this with our Facebook and Twitter feeds, we have a very powerful system for attracting guests and EVERYONE benefiting from it. Driving up publicity is the single most important thing to make the site grow, and what better reason to make such an effort than to get paid for it?

Creating Google Ads (the most profitable, and our ad-system of choice) is a very VERY simple process where you create a Google account, and then follow the directions on the screen. At the end you will need to verify some personal information such as tax info and the bank you want to have your checks deposited to, but it's nothing painful. All of this private information MUST be handled on your end, as neither CCS nor its admins want to know such personal details for the sake of not being held liable for whatever reasons. You would then only need to add the generated piece of code via a future editor update, and the site will apply it to ALL of your content. It's simple, it's easy, and it's surprisingly effective.

Again, the Google Ads will be entirely optional because some of you may think that you're not in it for the money, which is awesome. But for others, it presents some incentive to make your work known.


SO, who wants to see such a system implemented?

considering that he has to do the coding to get your ads onto your reviews without fee is awesome but, keep in mind that any ads that you do will be monitored closely by whatever company you go through. if you go on a mad clicking spree on your ads: you wont get any money.

on the other hand, ads on your review might just make it look like ass.

I am currently databasing all of the new content, so adding a banner ad for each member would be a relatively simple procedure where they would just paste their own Google Analytics code into a text fields via the Editor, and PRESTO, it's done.

The Ads would take the place of the current top banner ad, and possibly a designated right-column, so it would still look classy.

If i wasnt unemployed i think id say "no thank you i dont want the $" but im a hair a way from being desperate for cash, but I wanted noted that i never became a member and (poorly) wrote for this site because I expected to get paid. I came here because Kenny introduced me to it and you all looked cool, insane, but cool ^_^

I'm thinking of opening up a NEWS section for games, movies, music, anime, etc and it'd be an easy way to get a bunch of content for CCS, and thus make lots of pages with lots of ads.

I'd just require finding interesting news, rewriting it a bit, and adding a large graphic. Do this 5x each workday, and that's 125 pages every month with your ads on them.

But if everyone wants in on that kinda deal, I may have to split people up by genre (movies/games/music/etc)...

An interesting proposal...

What do all of you think? Should CCS stick to original content and keep our website lean and mean, or should we make a news section to make some extra ad-money, get more content on the site, and potentially get more followers?

I can see how putting adds in reviews might induce more people to write reviews, articles and whatnot, but as for news - I dunno... Part of what makes this site so great is the harsh cynical but still justified humour and I don't think you can get much of that in official serious news

Why would we care about reading news here? When I want news I go news sites and get my fill. When I come here I don't want to have to dig through one hundred re written news articles to find a new review or video. And if there's anything worth two shits going on in the news its normally in the forums. Sorry for all of you who wanted to make a fast buck by playing copy and paste journalist but this isn't the site to do it on. It would be a different story if you had plans to make another website that was dedicated to only news.
