It's definitely a major revolution in the 3-D front. Because of Avatar, we're seeing more films than simply animated fare and horror films being transfered to 3-D like the next Harry Potter and The Clash of the Titans.

Until people get tired of having to pay extra and the grosses from the 3-D showings start going down, I think 3-D is here to stay and it's all because of Avatar.

However, I do think that the 3-D television sets studios are pushing right now are going to bomb.

3D television sets?! Man, fuck that noise. It's like Blu-Ray (just kidding, don't kill me).

Agreed about the 3-D television sets. I don't mind 3-D in the theatre, where it makes more of an impact. But, at home, I would rather watch the 2-D version. I have no problems with watching on the 2-D edition of Up for the rest of my life.

But, yeah, most people just converted to wide-screen flat-panel sets. Now the studios want us to buy them again - and at a more expensive price-tag? No way will this fly with the general public.

they are having a hard time just convincing most the populace to go to blue-ray. DVD's are still selling strong and there is not enough of a quality difference for people to justify going to the better quality.

they are out of their MIND if they think that I am going to replace all my TV sets for 3d sets. its just not going to happen.

Not to mention the cost of the blu-ray players and HD TVs needed to SEE the difference.

Hehe, I bought an HD TV last Black Friday. I got one for less than $700 and I am really happy with it. I have an Xbox Elite already and a Playstation Slim last week and they both look really really good. My first Blu-Ray movie was Transformers 1 and it looks so cool and clear and I can't be any happier. Well maybe if I had a surround sound speaker set.

3D is lame in my opinion and it was a fad that should have died out in the 1950s and 1960s. If you watch old 3D movies that come with 3D glasses all they do is throw out gimmick after gimmick where a movie will pause so that a bad guy can throw something at the audience. If 3D makes a comeback it will also be full of stupid gimmicks and cheap uses of the 3D technology. Wait until Alice in Wonderland comes out and I bet you will see a lot of scenes where things go flying at the camera.

And why isn't it possible to make 3D without having to buy a special TV? If I go to a theater do they have special projectors for the 3D effects? I remember years ago when the alien sitcom Third Rock from the Sun had a 3D episode and all you needed were the paper-glasses, and that was on Standard Definition TVs so why do we need 3D HD TVs?

It is all just a ploy for more of our money and no one but the rich are that gullible.

3D TV RANT AHOY!!

Let's face it, unless it's a real spectacle – like the Super Bowl or Avatar – Americans are not going to wear dorky glasses to watch TV. Can you just imagine inviting a super-hot date over to your pad to watch a little telly – and forcing her (or him) to put on a pair of glasses? Now that's romantic. Or how about getting the family together for a little family TV watching? Heck, it's hard enough to keep track of all those remotes, now we've got to track down the glasses too? And guaranteed, little Billy will throw-up before Buzz Lightyear meets Cowboy Woody. And when it comes to casual viewing, forget it. I won't be wearing glasses while cooking, surfing the net, tweeting, reading the paper, talking on the phone, or any of the other zillion things we all do every day while watching TV.
