Here is a damned good find: An audio interview with MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH Director Kevin Tancharoen; Talks About What He Wants to do in a Feature Version! After hearing this audio interview with Kevin Tancharoen (director of 'FAME' oddly enough), I am 100% positive that Tancharoen is THE perfect director for a Mortal Kombat remake. The way he says how much he HATES the overuse of the 'Crouching Tiger' crap gives me a boner. He also says that the thing that he hates about the last two Matrix movies was that Neo was vulnerable and 3D in the first Matrix, where as the last two had him in 'God Mode' where you just weren't interested in him because you knew he'd win. That's why any Mortal Kombat movie he would make would still have a few 'special moves' but they would be done tastefully and it would be severely limited. On the flip side, Raiden won't be an electrician with phasers on his forearms. Haha. He'd rather have a healthy balance that takes place in an alternate universe that delves in a lot of 'evil forces' that explain some of the more supernatural elements. Fucking metal!! He wants to focus on the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, rather than Lui Kang et al. He also drops some great ideas for the characters, like how Scorpion is a bad guy, and he'll be a bad guy, but he'll be a 3D character where Sonya and Jax are coattailing off of Scorpion's rampage. Check out the full mp3 audio review below. It's a long listen, but it's boner-inspiring hearing a QUALIFIED MK FAN POSSIBLY DIRECTING A MK MOVIE!!! http://media.collider.com/collider_audi ... llider.mp3

Don't make this into a movie. They should make it into an HBO or Showtime series so that it can cut through all the hollywood studio bullshit and do this movie right. That way it could be made into 15 episodes at 1 hour each instead of 2 hours of movie time. I am scared that Warner Brothers would try to make this film into a PG13 movie to pander to a broader audience and the movie will be cut to ribbons and Mortal Kombat will end up right back at the first movie version with lots of computer effects a rushed story lame jokes joke characters and almost no violence.

You make a hell of a good point.

And TygerTyger just made an even better point. So really, thanks to the moneygrabbers and decision makers at Warner Brothers, a Mortal Kombat movie is doomed to mediocrity right from the start.

The trailer video has 3 million views and are positive in a land slide. If a studio made a PG-13 Mortal Kombat after the rebirth video there would be nerd riots. If you think that a studio would make another Chun Li movie after the youtube feedback of this short you are high as fuck.

I understand everyones fear of a PG-13 rating but the studios have to have some form of a brain and understand a couple of things.
1. People under 17 are still gonna see the damm movie, the R rating would be more of a "dare" then a "do not" 2. If they have any brains (ill give them the benefit of the doubt here) they would make MORE money with an R rating. If nothing else hopefully learning their lesson from the first time around and realizing that a PG-13 could hurt them more then "help" them
If they realize the gold that could be in their laps right now, especially after what Laughingman pointed out, they'll give in to a damm R rating and be done with it and hopefully FINALLY give the fans a decent and well done Mortal Kombat movie.
Again I feel the "alterations" being done with the characters is acceptable this one time and i do like the idea of a scorpion sub-zero thing. I think they always kind of stole the show in the game ya know?!

Pattar and *STAR* are right, Warner Brothers is sitting on a friggin' goldmine and they'd be STUPID not to take this viral video momentum and roll with it in the same style as that which is so obviously popular. Any 'tweaking' the YouTube proven formula would probably kill the project However there are problems, Warner Brothers is actually in the middle of a lawsuit over the Mortal Kombat movie rights with Threshhold Entertainment (producers of he first and second Mortal Kombat movies), who still legally retained the rights to make a third Mortal Kombat movie after Warner Brothers purchased Midway Entertainment (creators of the Mortal Kombat franchise). My thoughts are this: Since Threshhold Entertainment has the legal rights, if Warner Brothers denies MORTAL KOMBAT: REBIRTH Director Kevin Tancharoen a shot to make a movie, he can pack up and take it to Threshhold Entertainment. Again, there's a lot of legal holdup right now with hollywood lawyers bouncing Mortal Kombat like it was a beach volleyball. (Hmmm... Mortal Kombat: Beach Volleyball... Kitana and Sonya on the beach .... nah. Stupid idea for a video game.)
