So long as they keep the budget low, and the writing at least mediocre, not to mention the unlimited potential with being online, I could see this series going far (so long as the filmmakers are given the freedom that only the internet can provide and not be held back by a mainstream studio).

As long as the same people who worked on the trailer/ pilot/ episode zero, whatever you wanna call it, Ill be satified. As I mentioned in my original posting of this topic normally I'm an anal bitch when it comes to characters, etc being changed around but I can accept the changes givin in the pilot and not be annoyed by it. Not that I'm a hard gamer but I know the games and enjoy them, etc.

I do hope Hollywood dosent come in and fuck it up though. Here is a chance to give Mortal Kombat GOOD REPRESENTATION in a different media! just let the people who obviously love and enjoy these characters and give us something to scream up in joy about finally!!!!

As RuPaul says:

"And don't fuck it up!"

But the problem is that Warner Bros Studios is going to be backing this series, and Warner Bros bought all of the rights to the MK franchise, including the games after Midway tanked. Since it's a digitally distributed product, Warner Bros MIGHT cut the series some slack, but I can't help but think that they'll run it through some bureaucratic bullshit and will fuck it up.

NOT TO MENTION that in the audio interview I linked to earlier in this topic, the director of the short, Kevin Tancharoen, said that he DID want to touch up on 'supernatural elements' synonymous with Mortal Kombat (ex: fireballs and bicycle kicks).

Now, I love the new (somewhat) realistic direction that this film seems to be going in, but once a character throws a projectile attack (fireball, forceball, lightning), things are going to go downhill, FAST. There's gonna have to be one hell of a good explanation as to WHY they can perform these supernatural attacks IF they are going to be keeping this video series in a real-world setting, or millions including myself will throw up their arms and shout BULLSHIT in unison.

Personally, the only hope is to keep the series as hand-to-hand as possible, relying on the amazing fight choreography we all saw in the Mortal Kombat Rebirth trailer between Baraka and Johnny Cage, and keep the supernatural elements minimal at most.

But who knows? Maybe Kevin Tancharoen can pull it off seamlessly.

But until I see it with my own two eyes, I will remain a cynic. Like CineMax said, in his wisdom, "Better to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised, than to expect the best and get shafted." ... well, not an exact quote of his, but it's the same concept.

Agreed. What got me hooked on the whole concept was how Mortal Kombat actually becomes more disturbing and abominable (in a good way), once you take away all the supernatural aspect, and replace the somewhat cartoonish characters (e.g. he's a demon, so he needs to be evil) with their real life counterparts, which happen to be humans, only with humongous psychological problems, 'cos, if you ask me, that makes them even more horrifying :D (Take for example Baraka: instead of a mutant Wolverine wannabe - may the fans forgive my blasphemy - we got ourselves a Kung-Fu Master Hannibal Lector )

Besides, judging by the trailer, Scorpion and Sub-Zero (if you look at his face, which yields for something like a second, you'll notice how he's wearing some cryogenic gear that keeps him alive a-la Mr. Freeze) are pretty humane, too, so there's still hope ;)

I could picture Sub-Zero spraying his opponents with liquid nitrogen, or something from his cryo-suit, and causing frostbite on their skin as merely a distraction in a fight. Yeah, I could live with that.

But if we get another Mortal Kombat where he makes a big magic ice force bubble (while still pretty damn cool in the theme of the 1st MK movie), it'll ruin the theme of the new series. I'm just sayin', "keep it real". LOL.

I agree with CineMax about the disturbing angle of HUMAN psychopaths, rather than demons and whatnot. Makes Mortal Kombat even more gruesome than the games, IMO, too.

I agree. The angle though not a new concept, is fresh to see in this franchise and will hopefully bring about something bigger (perhaps a feature length film, like the director wanted in the first place).

Looking back at earlier posts, I can still picture Warner Bros Studios midway through filming a 3rd Mortal Kombat movie, and that they've scrapped the project thanks to Mortal Kombat Rebirth.

Even the possibility of YouTube's (ie THE PEOPLE'S) feedback on a fan-film adverting another Mortal Kombat movie of "Annihilation" caliber makes me all warm and tingly inside.

Its better than the studios releasing another embarrassing box office flop or a direct to dvd video. So who will be reviewing these videos when they come out?
