Karate instructor turned actor Chris Casamassa has revealed that filming is scheduled to begin on a third movie installment in the venerable Mortal Kombat franchise this September.
Casamassa, who played undead warrior Scorpion in the original film and its sequel, confirmed that he is set to reprise his role for a third outing during a chat with sgvtribune.com.
Directed by Paul Anderson (who would later go on to head the movie adaptation of Resident Evil), 1995’s Mortal Kombat became something of a cult classic among fans, and is regarded as one of the most successful videogame – movie efforts to date. The sequel - Mortal Kombat: Annihilation – failed to stimulate as much interest as its predecessor, however, and was met with considerable backlash from both fans and critics alike.
I loved the first MK movie when I was a kid, and I still think it's an entertaining watch. The second movie is HORRIBLE. I remember waiting and waiting MONTHS for that piece of sht to finally come to VHS. I remember imagining what kinds of characters would be in the movie, and who would fight who. I was so tense!
When I finally got my grubby little hands on it, I raced home, popped it into the video player and... watched as my Mortal Kombat fantasies were SHATTERED before my eyes. When the Liu Kang and Shao Kahn used their 'Animalities' I threw up a little in my mouth... and a lot on the couch.
Please, don't drag this series on any further... After Annihilation, there's no way to salvage it.
Just... no... let it die.

O god I hear that. Sheesus, don't people ever learn? Its bad enough that video game movies all SUCK - well, i did like RE and Silent Hill a little - but that the SEQUELS to these sucky movies suck even harder than the first?
I watched Annihilation in theaters and there were people walking out of that movie left and right. I think when the lights came on my buddies and I were the only dumbasses left in the theater. It wasnt a movie it was an EMBARRASSMENT.
I am kinda curious how they will follow that shit bomb with a third movie. I hear that the actors signed 3 movie contracts, and now all of them are trying to get out of it.

I hope they make a third Mortal Kombat movie if it is like the first movie and not Annihilation. I actually watched Mortal Kombat last night and I still get some nostalgic value from Mortal Kombat even if it is cheesy. The fighting still rocks and the characters are somewhat likable. Johnny Cage still makes me LOL at times.
If any movie should get the 'George Lucas' touchup treatment it should be Mortal Kombat because the computer effects are outdated.

New Mortal Kombat Rebirth trailer... maybe? kinda? Fair warning, this trailer is pretty brutal so better consider it NSFW.
I guess it's following the previous two Batman movies in trying to get a more 'realistic edge'. Personally, if a new MK movie looked like NInja Assassin it'd rock harder. But, this already looks better than 99% of the shit videogame-to-movie adaptations like DOA and Street Fighter.

Like I said, it looks better than most video game movies but I think that making the film look like a cross between "Se7en" and "Fight Club" might be overdoing it a little. I think that a kick ass movie along the lines of Ninja Assassin would work better: Brutal fights, crazy weapons, closer to the (albeit semi-retarded) source material.
