I'm already having a nerd-gasm thanks to the return of the (not-killed-off) original cast, and two new key players who I knew were missing from the original.

I would think that age would be a larger issue than the man's weight. Weight can be lost just like Stallone and even Arnold have done in the past for their roles, but age is an obstacle that is harder to overcome. With devotion to the film and proper training Steven Seagal could have been a member of the Expendables.

Didn't care about most of these old-timers when they were still young (save for Bruce Willis 'cos the man can actually act in a role more complex than a walking killing machine), don't care about 'em now.
Oh, and don't give me crap about 'The Ultimate Action Movie of All Time.' This excuse worked the first time, now they're just getting desperate.

Compared to the shit they've been making for the last ten years The Expendables was pretty good. Steve Austin's movies like The Condemned suck. Chuck Norris movies suck. Most Jean Claude Van Damme movies like Time Cop suck but he's got Blood Sport and Universal Soldier. Terry Crewes is only good when he's in a funny role like in White Chicks. Dolph Lundgren's best movies are when he's the bad guy and Sylvester Stallone or Van Damme are the good guys. Jason Statham is alright. Jet Li, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis are the real star power with the best movies. Schwarzenegger's best work was around his Terminator 2 and True Lies years.
In The Expendables all of the different good and bad action stars got to shine in a mega budget 80s and 90s action flick that takes them back to their glory days and I'm stoked to see Norris and Van Damme getting in on the fun, even if it might just be a last hurrah for some of them it's a better way to go out than some of their latest crap they have been making. Like after watching Assassination Games and Universal Soldier Regeneration Jean Claude Van Damme deserves to be in a better movie this late in his career.
Yeah I'm stoked for the sequel.

Just a action fans wet dream come true
The first film was basically nothing! It was fan service! Ugh so boring, correction it was a joy-gasim for Micheal Bay
Boring? Having all of those action actors (because not all of them are 'stars') sitting around discussing politics would be boring. The first Expendables movie was so NOT boring that it makes a great movie to watch while you workout. Yeah, it's an action junkie film with some love interest subplots that don't contribute jack, but at least it's entertaining from start to finish.
We've reached a point in our civilization and social mindset where everyone's a critic and impossible to please. To quote Chaplin in The Great Dictator: "Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness, hard and unkind." Something tells me that if Raiders of the Lost Ark were to have premiered in 2010 instead of 1981 that it would be crucified by not just the critics but the general public as being cheesy, and if Terminator 2 were released today it'd be judged as strictly action porn.
But I'm guilty of that just as much as anyone else, but sometimes I can sit back and enjoy a movie knowing that being an action porn or fanservice film was its intent, and that their aspirations weren't to become a movie worthy of the Criterion Collection.
I've recently found myself honestly enjoying the movie "Hitman" and although Agent 47 never gets grazed by a bullet in a 10 person shootout, and the plot of a cold hearted assassin taking a liking to a hooker with a heart of gold may or may not have been used before, I'd still qualify it as a movie worth my time.
Anyways, I won't be standing in line for The Expendables 2 but I'll still make it one of the few movies I'll go to a theater to watch... preferably on a school night or I'll risk having 18-21 year olds ruin the movie: "Hurr hurr, that's sooo fake."
No shit, Sherlock. It's a fucking movie.

That should so be on a T-Shirt some where in the world
Eh maybe I'm a bit to critical on it. I mean i grew up with all these guys just like you did. I love Predator and Die Hard and Rocky etc etc but still...

@LaughingMan: My problem isn't with the movie itself, but rather with the fact that this franchise (and, I dread, it one day will become one) is quickly becoming an easy way to make a quick buck for retired action stars that only the older generation remembers. The only reason why the first film did so well wasn't 'cos it was a tribute to cheesy 80s action movies or anything, but 'cos of the "Holly shit! All these big name action stars in one movie!" factor. Still, I'm willing to admit that there is indeed truth in what AlphawolfX said. Perhaps it is better to go away with a band than slowly rot in the corner.
But explain to me, what's the point of the upcoming sequel? Oh, that's right. To include the suckers that didn't get lucky the first time. Part 2, my ass. More like The Expendables 1.5, am I right? And no, it's not 'cos I'm an action movie hater or something. Like I've said, while I didn't bother with the first film, at least I didn't mind. Now, however, I'm afraid Stallone is repeating the same mistakes he did with Rambo V. (For the uninitiated, Rambo IV was supposed to be the last film since he didn't feel like Rambo III had given the character proper closure. Rambo IV does fairly well in the box office, he immediately forgets about the 'closure' part and starts pitching an idea for yet another sequel. Luckily, the said idea gets nixed, so what does he do? He starts working on The Expendables, which, again, were supposed to provide some form of 'closure' to all these have-been action stars. But now there's a sequel coming up... See what I mean?
