I saw Alice last night. It pretty good. I do not have much to compare the film to besides the Disney animated classic so I went in with a fairly open mind. I thought that a few of the character designs were too fantastic and I agree that the big-headed Red Queen was really weird. The Mad Hatter - my favorite character - was overly bizarre in appearance but Depp pulled off a good performance. My vote is for: I enjoyed it, but it could have been better, I admit.

I'm sorry but Alice in Wonderland was absolute GARBAGE. It was bland movie where Tim Burton just took source material and made it into a Hot Topic item: a family-friendly Goth piece of merchandise. As flashy and colorfully stylized as the movie LOOKS, at the core Tim Burton's Wonderland was not nearly as joyfully whimsical or ingenious as Lewis Carroll's 150 year old story.
FAIL.

The movie was disappointing at best and I expected Tim Burton to not follow the growing trend in Hollywood regarding Pretty Computer Graphics = $blockbuster and put some soul into Alice. The actress playing Alice in the movie is absolutely uninteresting and wooden, and Depps Mad Hatter changes his character midway through. The only saving grace is the Red Queen who actually delivers a humorous performance.

I thoroughly enjoyed Alice in Wonderland! It was as whimsy and odd as the childrens stories I grew up with but perhaps I am a little biased?
