Well, it's 2010 and like most cinephiles, I usually compile a list of my top top films of the prior year. But, what are yours?
Here is mine in video format (with the films listed below):
10. Funny People 9. Where the Wild Things Are 8. Whip It 7. Up in the Air 6. Star Trek 5. Up 4. Ponyo 3. Inglourious Basterds 2. Avatar 1. The Princess and the Frog

Fail. TF2, Terminator, and GI Joe beat out Funny People and Where the wild things are and none of those should make any top 10 list. also Star Trek > Avatar.

My list is not so much based on what movies I think are the critical masterpieces, but just movies that I saw last year that I enjoyed. This is in no particular order, but:
12.Paranormal Activity - A little weak, story-wise, but it wowed me with some of the effects when their budget was only $11,000! It scares the hell out of everyone else, and while it didn't touch me until the very end (The Ring, another classic, didn't phase me at all), I can still see the mastery of frights at work in this little gem! 11. District 9 - Apart from the constant fucks of the main character (although it's understandable you'd spew that word if you were turning into an alien), this documentary-style sci-fi flick was fucking AWESOME! 10. Up - Saw it three times in the span of a week 9. Avatar - Imax adds a little more epicness to it, but I also saw the regular version 8. Drag Me To Hell - The triumphant return of Sam Raimi in the horror genre! 7. Inglourious Basterds - Seeing it a second time last week cemented this as one of them; I saw it when it was really hyped, so it's good to know it still keeps its quality after the hype died down. 6. Star Trek - It was entertaining, and it was what the Prequel Trilogy SHOULD HAVE BEEN. 5. Up In The Air - Saw it last week, and I have to say... I friggin' love George Clooney, his movies are fab! 4. Public Enemy - Had I not seen it with other people and in my own time, I prolly wouldn't have seen it. However, it proved Johnny Depp can do more than goth or goofy weirdo ala Tim Burton, and that's what sealed the deal with me! 3. The Princess And The Frog - The triumphant return of Disney animation, this movie made me give a damn even about a redneck firefly. The songs were a little weak, but then again how can you compare Disney songs when some were written by Phil Collins or Elton John? 2. Ponyo - aside from the weird-as-hell ending credits, Miyazaki was able to enchant me to the point where I had the mind of a young child again when I watched it (that's a good thing). 1. Zombieland - It was some damn good fun! Fuck the zombie apocalypse fetishists out there, this movie's for anyone who wants some zombie carnage and hilarious comedy that is enhanced by the cameo of Bill Murray! BILL MURRAY!!!

I suppose I should post the list that I have seen this year and at least give you guys a top 10 to rip apart 10 District 9 (open for a sequel but I dont think it will do good) 9 Dragonball Evolution (they actually did a decent job on this. dont let the fact that is based off an anime scare you off) 8 push (liked the story line, decent action, look it up) 7 I love you man (actually a comedy unlike Funny people) 6 Monsters vs Aliens 5 Law abiding citizen (see this movie!) 4 Avatar 3 Zombieland (a fun movie a great for preparing for the zombies) 2 Up 1 Star Trek (seriously, this movie kicked ass)

I honestly don't go out and watch new movies. The only new movies I watched this year are:
Transfomers 2 Avatar Inglourious Basterds Terminator Salvation Zombieland
So basically I have a Top 2 list of best movies of 2009. You can take a stab in the dark over which are the top two.

IN ORDER 1 to 10
Star Trek Up The Hurt Locker Avatar The Hangover District 9 The Road Sherlock Holmes Inglorious Bastards Tyson
I really liked Tyson because the movie is not a documentary but a real bearing of the soul of the most controversial boxer of all time. You really pity the man and it is really powerful.
The Hurt Locker is probably the best modern war movie. It beats Black Hawk Down and the shitty Jarheads movies easy.

There has to be more than 10 good movies before you can make a Top 10.
