If anybody's a fan here of Gorillaz, then you might already know that the virtual band has released its comeback single from the album coming next month, "Stylo".
Jesus Christ, this sounds alot like the tailend of their demo with the same name, and it looks like they fucking half-assed it. Yes, the contribution from Womack was a nice touch, but I'm just left with an empty feeling. If this is the song they wanted to push out as their comeback single, how the hell will the rest of their album be?!
Here's an example of their other comeback single from 2005, when they made "Demon Days." It was a little thing called "Feel Good Inc.":
THAT is a comeback single. "Stylo"... URGH.

Oh I know . I'm keeping up high hopes for Plastic Beach, but now that I'm more awake I can still say that this isn't as strong as FGI. Def. not a bad song, but just not as strong~.

The video was kicked off youtube. The official site has it up http://www.gorillaz.com/ Bobby Womack gives it a seventies rnb beat but it dont mix well with electronica that sounds like Mobys early years. Mos Def isnt bad but i'm not a fan of his music but sadly im a fan of his movies like Be Kind Rewind and the Hitchhikers Guide.

You know what would have made it better? More traditional instruments, like guitar and actual drums instead of a processed beat. That's what I think, anyways . It would have given the song more character in terms of the instrumentation, although the guest vocals are not bad in the slightest!

I agree with Kenny. Even heavily processed previous Gorillaz songs like '19-2000' have traditional instruments, and this new single just doesn't do much for me. Stylo just sounds too experimental for my tastes, almost like they were concerned about getting big names on the album than really refining the sound.
