Yes I am pushing the boundaries of the "norm" and actually reviewing a television station.

Cartoon Network is a well known and beloved channel on cable. Its original programing was literally nothing but cartoons. Most of them from the older generations of Warner Bros. various series since the show is owned by Time Warner.

Image

Its first aired show was a Bugs Bunny Cartoon: Rhapsody Rabbit, on October 1, 1992.

The channel caught on to kids, of all ages, and is popular enough it is still on today. I mean really, what could be better than an entire channel that played nothing but cartoons 24/7? It even gave us beautiful Toonami which ran from March 17, 1997 through September 20, 2008, making it the longest-running programming block in Cartoon Network's history. That line up gave us such shows as Reboot, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and more.

On September 2, 2001 Adult Swim was born. A sister channel to Cartoon Network but aimed at the more adult audience. First planned to be on Sunday nights from 10pm-2am Adult Swim has grown to an every night showing. The series aired animes and some original programming. Though animes still show up, its turned into more original programs like Moral Oral and The Venture Bros.

Sounds like heaven on earth right? I mean I remember when I would wake up at or 3 am for whatever reason and not wanting to risk bumping into something "scary" (I'm a scardy cat) on TV I knew I could always go to Cartoon Network and their Tom and Jerry would comfort me till I felt tired again.

But then... the nightmare happened. Live Action series aired on CARTOON Network. The horror of it all!

Now maybe I'm being to critical about this but... Cartoons are NOT Live Action right?! I mean thats why their are two different words. Because the two are completely different correct?! So then.. WHY ARE LIVE ACTIONS SHOWS BEING AIRED ON AN ENTIRE STATION CALLED CARTOON NETWORK?!

We now have shows like The Othersiders which is basically the series T.A.P.S. in chibi form. And Destroy Build Destroy which the plot "a game show hosted by musician Andrew W.K. in which two groups (a "green" team and an "orange" team) of three teenage contestants get to destroy various objects, then build vehicles out of the wreckage. The show features high powered explosives, rocket launchers, bazookas, and other dangerous weapons. The winning team gets $3,000 as a prize, the losers' creation then gets destroyed by the team of the winning vehicle."

Yes brilliant idea, encourage vandalism. I'm not even going to talk about the live action Ben 10 movies they made.

Overall Cartoon Network started off strong with some great classics and every kids dream of a 24/7 cartoon. But it's slowly, in my humble opinion, turning away from what was its origins and set up. But with layouts like Adult Swim and some of their original series. I think Cartoon Network will be here to stay for a few more laughs.

The review is pretty good so far but it feels a little light.

I haven't seen the 'real' Cartoon Network since when Toonami was still up and running. I do remember Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo but I never got into any of the other Cartoon Network shows. too bad Nickelodeon still owns the rights to Invader Zim and it can't be syndicated on Cartoon Network because that was would make the station the best. I do not watch Cartoon Netowork anymore but I download Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman, and Sealab 2012.

Hi Star,

It's a good start but maybe expand the cartoons that were available on the network. You gave examples of Toonami's lineup and maybe ellaborate on the others?

Cartoon Network played a lot of Hannah Barbara at first (which then separated into the network 'Boomerang'). They also produced a ton of really good Cartoon-Cartoon shows like Dexter, Power Puff Girls, Billy and Mandy, and the critically acclaimed animated series (and a personal favorite) Samurai Jack.

There are also a ton of Adult Swim shows produced by Williams Street that might be worth mentioning.

And we love rants, so if you hate the live-action stuff, have fun ripping it apart.

I hope this helps gives you a bit of a direction you might consider. :)

She can go back and edit/add the review right? I mean I see Zimes and Laughingman do it here and there so if she wants to expand there is still time I think.

Does anybody remember Courage the Cowardly Dog? I loved that series because it was so crazy with the monster movie parodies. Samurai Jack kicked ass too.

If she wants to. I see no reason why it can't be expanded. I probably won't be posting any reviews until after Halloween (keeping the Halloween-ish reviews in focus for the entire upcoming weekend).
