I did not say it was good or that I am an anime nerd now but Devil May Cry had some gunplay that was fun to watch. Another mindless-action time killer like Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.

but a good collab on the review!

I dunno. DEVIL MAY CRY was pretty mindless. Kinda like BLACK LAGOON without any development.
Ono, you check out BLACK LAGOON? If not you should.

I actually prefered ONOs review over the other just cause it was pretty informative. Plus ya gotta take a review about Japanese animation from a guy who says he hates animation lightly.

BLASPHEMY!!

Jokin'. No offense taken, just glad that people are liking the collaboration on our anime review, even if one of us is hideously biased... ONOE!

LOL yeah it is OONOE that is biased here...

Hell no!! Laughing man for the win! No offense Onoe but I liked the anit review by Laughing man better just because it is a lot more entertaining to read his rants. Both are still good but I like the funny one.

Yes, Devil May Cry did not have anything really deep as far as plot or story, but I think it was only supposed to be a promo for Devil May Cry 4. You know, try to hook anime fans into the game series. For the most part it wasn't terrible but just lacking a lot.

I am a huge fan of Black Lagoon because it is action packed and also has the depth necessary for a great story.

I liked the two different styles. Good change of pace half way through.

Yes, we were well aware of that fact.

My personal verdict for the anime series:

Quote:
Disappointingly, the individual episodes are just that: individual episodes. Save for reoccurring characters and the accumulating main plot involving Sid, every episode is stand alone without any tie-ins from one to another. Due to each episode being around 20 minutes long each, they are so tightly condensed that it's underdeveloped at times. Though a few episodes do a good job at explaining a decent story, a lot of them are not nearly as flushed out as they should be in terms of plot and character development.

The action sequences... are mediocre. Sad to say it, the action is far between, usually involving only one fight at the end of each episode that lasts about thirty seconds. A usual fight starts with a demon saying he will kill Dante, and then it takes a few swipes before Dante either blasts it away in a hailstorm of bullets, or cuts it in half with his enormous broadsword. Originating from one of the biggest action games in history, it's a disenchanting downturn.

Image

My final verdict is that Devil May Cry will only appeal to the hardcore Devil May Cry fans, and few others. The plot is fairly ambiguous for those new to the series, and veterans would probably rather play the fast-paced games than watch what is, more or less, a Devil May Cry soap opera in comparison. Still, the series isn't the worst I've ever seen, and I wouldn't even say it is bad; it's just not what people would expect.

Quite possibly your best review you have posted on these forums. Here are my opinions of your review:

GOOD
The new avatar was a nice touch because it created a neat online persona that I believe could work very well.
Well informed opinions and clear presentation with your microphone.
Using videos from the games and the anime are really handy.
Blowing up France always scores bonus points.

BAD
The starting joke was okay but it went on too long. Many reviewers focus on making a skit or story instead of actually reviewing what they are reviewing. Perhaps if the jokes were within the review in a Nostalgia Critic sort of way, but with better relevancy to the subject, obviously :P

Not enough personal opinion in my own opinion. Perhaps if you told viewers more about what you liked and disliked about characters and plot elements instead of just giving the facts. That is why I watch reviews is because I like hearing opinions more than just facts.

I don't like pauses in a review. I believe almost every body is guilty of it, though, but when a reviewer stops reviewing to show an extended clip it feels like the review is not progressing during that time.

UGLY
How things will get when LaughingMan shares his own opinions on the anime of one of his favorite video games.

Your review style has improved greatly and if you were not already picked up by another website we could use your refined talent.
