I honestly made the same mistake when I looked for it before you courteously provided the link . I was like "THE FUCK IS THIS?!"

I went to a torrent site to find this anime but when I watched it there was no eerie atmosphere or mass murder there was only a bunch of kids going to a water park and something about a hairy seal. Whassup? This even the right anime? This must be the star wars picnic story Laughingman mentioned in his review.

Onoe was great at going first and explaining the history of When They Cry -I can't spell the other names- and he gave it high marks. The origins was good to see and so was the cultural impact of When They Cry in Japan because I just think that stuff is interesting.
LaughingMan wrote one of his longest and best reviews in a while by really explaining the show in a ton of depth that makes me even want to shell out $50 and just buy When They Cry. LaughingMan must have watched the series multiple times to find so much depth in a really horrific looking anime so I guess LaughingMan is the expert on When They Cry.
Kenny's review was the most surprising. His intro started out on another anime rant but was quickly retracted after I assumed he watched the show. Kenny's review was also coming from a layman to anime and When They Cry so his problems with the show are probably what most people will feel when the first watch it.
You three have a great, balanced chemistry I hope to see more reviews from you! I can drink to that.
And guess what m8s? I read the reviews and I am downloading the series as I type. I'll give you my non-review impressions in a few weeks.

KennyFarino wrote: No, that's the third 'chapter' in the series. You need to specifically type in "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni," or ask LaughingMan and ONOE for the link. LaughingMan wrote: Oh god... what a horrible first impression. You got the horrible Rei series. Skip any 'Rei' or 'Kai's and try again. Roger that. All systems are go m8s!

Hello you handful of faithful followers... Guess what I finished watching: Attachment:

You know what the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni movie (Shrill Cries of Summer??) and the following have in common?? YOU SKIP THEM.Okay okay, the movie wasn't BAD but it was just cut really short (2 hrs is short?) and some of the parts just don't ... they don't make the leap from animation to live-action that well... ("LIAR!!!" scene made me cringe, and not in a good way.) The acting was okay and the story wasn't neutered, but it was still a confusing mess for the most part (from the eyes of a person new to the series). The haunting and creepy atmosphere is weaker, and some of the more carefree aspects are downplayed. Elements of other story arcs are added to avoid some confusion and thus creates a ton of exposition, which I guess would be needed. I was impressed with the camera work. Zooming in on people's mouths, and some of the shots of the town were really good. The dude who played the Detective was pretty good. Thank God they gave everyone normal appearances with normal clothing and (yeesh) normal colored hair. The effects they use when Keiichi is losing his mind are... just really bad. Yellow fog? Come on... Finally, the #1 reason to skip it: SPOILERS. Overall, if this was my first Higurashi experience, I could turn away without ever looking back. ON A BRIGHTER NOTE: I am currently playing the translated demo of the original game. And it IS CREEPIER THAN FUCK.

And it IS CREEPIER THAN FUCK.As far as Japanese movies go, the HIgurashi no Naku Koro ni movie was pretty well made for the greater part. The story was condensed to the point of being somewhat unrecognizable and the spoilers were many, but I still enjoyed the film for what it was - a scary movie about a boy who goes paranoid and suspects his new town and friends of trying to kill him. I agree with some of Laughingman's comments except for the SKIP IT bit. I would suggest it to anyone who likes Japanese horror movies. Just don't expect it to make much more sense than Ringu or Ji-On.
