See, Disney is thinking in terms of (possibly) the NAACP objection that they portrayed slavery in a positive light, but other than that the African-American actors and actresses were actually a lot more respectfully treated this time around than in... say... Gone With The Wind. Hattie McDaniel, the actress who played in both movies, played the stereotypical role of a Mammy in Gone With The Wind, and that film also portrays the pre-Civil War South in an idyllic light. Is it historically inaccurate? Yes. Is it objectionable? Yes. Is it racist to the point of censorship? Apparently not, if Gone With The Wind is one of the greatest films of all time, so why keep Songs of the South under the rug if it isn't even that offensive (especially for a 1940's film)?

@Kaleb: Not really, no. I do like some of the movies (mostly the so-called Millennium Series), since me and some of my mates would watch them on our then-frequent "So Bad It's Good" movie all-nighters. I'm not saying the films are bad, mind. On the contrary, if you don't take the subject matter too seriously, they're quite entertaining. Can't stand the Hollywood version, though. Apparently no one bothered to tell Roland Emmerich that the most important character in a monster movie is—you guessed it!—the monster, not Mathew Broderick and Co. @Laughy: Wait, what was the joke again? *ONOE's reaction* Attachment:
