Just finished watching the 2nd part of the 3-part episode of South Park and for H.P. Lovecraft followers and fans of the Cthulhu mythos, it's pretty sweet to see this bizarre combination.
So BP oil f**ks up again, but this time they drill into a parallel dimension and release Elder Things, Old Ones, Shoggoths and even Nyarlathotep, The Crawling Chaos into our world. And now, it's up to Cartman's alter-ego, The Coon, to save the day with the help of Mysterion and other superhero friends.
However, BP's solution of fixing drilling spills is to naturally drill some more, so after drilling on the moon (long story involving using gravity to stop the dimensional rift) the evil Cthulhu rises from the depths and terrorizes the earth!

In episode 2, The Coon is kicked out of the super hero friends club for being a dick and so Cartman, in a very 'Puff the Magic Dragon' cartoony way, enlists the aid of all-mighty Cthulhu to get revenge on Stan, Kyle, Kenny and the other super heroes.

For some reason, I haven't gotten around to watching the last couple of South Park episodes, so I had no idea they were doing another multi-part episode. Trey and Matt seem to be doing a lot of those lately. Imaginationland (which was supposed to originally be another theatrically-released movie), the pan flute two-parter, the 200th episode and now this.

Dude, I fucking love this strange crossover! Really, what more evil a being could the superheroes go up against than fucking Cthulhu?! It's perfect! But the part where Cartman befriends Cthulhu, I think, is actually a parody of My Neighbor Totoro:

I dunno, it seems to me like South Park has a tradition of doing a 2 or 3 part episode. In seasons 1 and 2 there was the Cartman's Mom fiasco, then there was the Jewbilee/Two Men in a Hot Tub/Cat Orgy trilogy in season 3. Season 4 had Do The Handicapped Go To Hell/Probably. Season 6 was one big "how do we get Kenny back" fiasco that was unsatisfying.
But, yes, the multi-episodes format seems to have become commonplace with south park these last 4 or so seasons. But maybe they realized that they get people watching and talking about "next week's episode" so it's probably not a terrible thing either.

I stopped watching South Park a while ago because of these split up episodes. When a show keeps telling me "to be continued" every season it starts to piss me off.

Their parody of the Totoro theme was excellent. Here's the original version from My Neighbour Totoro, just so you can see how spot-on the South Park version is:
Are Matt Stone and Trey Parker followers of the mythos? If they are not fans then they have done their home work on the subject to be faithful to the monsters. I hope that South Park will turn more people to reading the mythos.
