I watch Green Lantern: The Animated Series. I can say is that this series is doing all the things I wished the movie did. While Hal Jordan is the star, the Green Lantern concept isn't just about him. It's about the brotherhood of the Corp and being part of this larger universe. And if the subplots they're setting up are any indication, it'll only get bigger.
The action is good and the acting is solid with Josh Keaton doing great in the lead. The animation takes familiar Bruce Timm style designs and realizes them in CGI, resulting in an almost claymation appearence. For those of us who grew up with Timm's traditionally animation DC Universe, the look of GL takes a moment to get used too.
What's your thoughts on the first episode? (If you saw it yet.)

It's was Sam Register's idea to make it computer-animated. Bruce Timm was never a fan of computer-animation. The TV show is pretty similar to Transformers: Prime and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. ( Not so good CGI, decent voice acting, good directing and the OK writing.)

I'll be honest, I've heard that it's actually kind of dull BECAUSE of the focus on the overall guardians. That's the kind of thing that only fans of the comic can really get into the way they're doing it, so I can see why it's isolating a lot of people.

Not even gonna bother. Sure, Bruce Timm might be assigned as an executive producer, but it's not his show. I mean, hell, even the fact that the series is entirely CGI when the man has clearly stated that he can't stand it already pretty much indicates that the studios added his name to the credits just to sucker in ex-DCAU fans, when in reality, not only doesn't the show have anything to do with it, but it also doesn't even stand a chance in comparison. Also, this Sam Register guy. I don't like him. You can tell he's pretty much trying to become the next Bruce Timm with all these half-assed CGI dregs based on DC characters like Green Lantern: The Animated Series and, as of late, Beware the Batman. Problem is, however, he doesn't seem to understand why people like these characters, 'cos otherwise he wouldn't have settled for the godawful CGI and kiddie tone, especially in the case of Batman.

I think people also make the mistake of thinking 'HEY WE GOT A FAMOUS GUY HEADING THE PROJECT.' Doesn't matter whose heading it, an animated series is a group effort. With BTAS, it was the combination of talents (Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, Shirley Walker, Eric Radomski and others) and the pooling of these efforts that made it so special. Pull them apart and it's not nearly as strong, plus how is the current team supposed to feel? How is anyone supposed to become anybody in this environment where the only way you can make it anywhere is if you're already a big name?
Oh wow, that was a tangent and a half :V

So he worked on an uncreative attempt to advertise two j-pop stars that actually got more fame from teen titans go, and then on a project that was already adapted from a questionable decision in a comic book and not a unique animated project?
Also, you seem to have missed the part where I said combination of talents- that's the actual team animating the show, not the one man providing direction artistically and one lone director. People forget that Timm and Dini were practically low level grunts once themselves when they hit it big.

@B-mask: Oi, hands off of Batman: Under the Red Hood. Sure, it was pretty much a desperate attempt to generate more drama on the comic book writers' part, but it doesn't change the fact that the movie was freaking awesome. For starters, we got a more or less coherent explanation why Jason Todd is back, and not the retarded 'Superman from an alternative dimension punched the walls of reality of some shit during the last major team-up; hence why this single long-forgotten character came back from life' explanation. Second, John DiMaggio was great as the Joker. Not Hamill great, mind, but great still. In other words, just 'cos the movie was based on a retarded comic book arc, doesn't make it bad. Though I agree on one thing: the fact that Sam Register was one of the many, many executive producers doesn't mean he's the one who made the movie great.

I personally enjoyed the hell out of Under the Red Hood, even though it was predictable, but no less shocking in places. @CineMax: Where's that Batman: Year One review at?
