I vote for the Ghost in the Shell anime series that was spawned from the hit animated movie. The series is just as action packed and just as deep as the movie, and it lasted for two seasons, which is actually rare for a Japanese anime. There is even a third Ghost in the Shell movie that takes place after the events of the second season of the anime series.

You win the prize.
Unfortunately winning an internet argument is like winning the Special Olympics: you are still retarded.

The cartoon series of Ghostbusters was wicked awesome.
The cartoon series of Evolution was brutally lame.

The BILL AND TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURES 90's cartoon is MOST TRIUMPHANT because it has the same actors doing the voice overs in the first season. The show was also educational with the Bill and Ted movie humor. In my opinion the cartoon series was cannon to the first movie and I try to forget that Bogus Journey was ever made. Sigh.

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey wasnt bad or anything but it doesnt feel like a real sequel with the whole heaven and hell angle. But the cartoon is most gnarly my esteemed compadres!

The Super Mario came out four years prior, but I don't think it inspired the movie. Though considering how little of it resembled the video game, it's questionable whether the movie took any inspiration from that source material, either.
