no, 6 was the best story EVER. 7 comes in to a close second for story line but in my rankings of the FF series it would go:
6 - (3 here in the US) The best story by far, awesome character base to choose from so that you are not stuck with stupid ones, and good game play. a must have. 9 - (thats right, the game play stuck close to the original FF game and the cut scenes in here were what the calls SHOULD be like in every FF game) the story was great as well. 2 - introduction of calls to the game as well as great story. 7 - besides being a first on the PS network the part where you had to cross dress in here was a little over the top 8 - two words: gun blades. even though squall is a emo douche. 10 - characters were good but HOW DO YOU ACIDENTLY BEAT THE GAME? it should be an epic fight not one where you say: "did I just finish the game?" 12 - although you can pretty much set the game to play for itself. the main character is a little prissy boy that you want to choke the shit out of but at least you have other decent characters. any crystal chronicle - a nice offset to how FF is played although I am not much into it.

by '2' do you mean '4'??? The one with the Dark Knight?
Straying WAAAY off topic:
6 - Best story, best character development, best scene of all gaming (Celes Opera), best villain of all time, Kafka (think of a mideival 'Joker')
7 - Most memorable. Everything here only takes 2nd place to #6. Most sequels
10 - Was good, except I hate Tidus. I was praying for the bastard to die when he was whistling on the docks. (Zimes: remember that joke character we talked about? Heh!)
8 - Absurd game when you break it down, but it was a fairly enjoyable romp regardless of its flaws.
9 - I just couldn't get into it... sorry. Never finished the game
12 - Haven't gotten to far into it yet, but so far it's not shaping up to well... characters are more androgynous than the band 'Prince and the Revolution'.
11 - Yay, spent 5 days killing fucking RABBITS in a forest, then in a field, then in the desert. Fuck off, 11!!

yay thread de-railment!
yes 2 (US) being 4(Japan) the twins in there kicked ass.
I do remember the running gag of ours about Tidus. even then I didnt hate him as much as I do the main char of 12. really out of the entire group in 12 if you got rid of Vaan and his girlfriend the game would be 10 times better.
I dont care who the F*** you are you can never, EVER classify FF11 as a final fantasy series. it does not end nor does it fit into the category of being a Final Fantasy game. Square - Eenix is just trying to get your money for the monthly fee by calling it Final Fantasy. they are even going to do that with 14. F*** THEM!
That is why 7 is loosing its standing with me. if they are going to get more sequels off of the game they better damn well make 7-2 and make it more memorable than all this shit they are comming out with. Advent children (rocked), Dirge of Cerebus (Vincent), Crisis Core, all decent but really give me another game that I have to play through LIKE FF7 rather than spin offs.
I loved the 6 part series that you showed me of FF8 but in all it was not the worst (FF10-2) series ever made and brought in some decent ideas.
really sit down and play 9. you get to one, just one cut scene of Behumut and you will be hooked from there.
There was another group of people that was sick of hearing that 7 was the best one out there so they started to remake 6 until Square came with a cease and desist order. here is just part of what they did

I've actually played FF 9 until just before the last boss fight, and I must have missed something... wait, I must have missed a LOT. I think the game died when that frog-cook thing became a character...

yeah that frog/cook became a character but, as I recall you only have to play it once then you can put it away forever. Almost every FF series has a toon that you put away and not ever play again. gyu from 6, yuffie from 7, sophie from 8, the frog/cook from 9, for you Tidus from 10 (although I put away lulu cause she was freaking worthless).
Im sure that there will be some worthless character in 13 that you will put away forever as well. I try and a) forget that they exists and b) try and not let it effect the game experience for me.

those huge gazongaaz did nothing to help out the team and she had the stupidest weapons. although they were a nice distraction and I was hoping that one of the programmers would make them slip out but, it never happened

If I ever got a PSP, I'd buy Dissidia just to bludgeon Tidus to death. With Kuja. The least-threatening villain in Final Fantasy existence. Also, it is me, or do the sequels after 9 just really suck? 10 might be heralded as a masterpiece by some, but...... I was never able to really like it.
