Today, March 4th, is another special day for Sony. It was on this day, ten years ago, that the PlayStation 2 was launched in Japan.
It's been a decade since then, but we can still see games being released for the PS2, and the console even outsold the PSP Go on some occasions. The PS2 continues to receive support, and in fact, was officially released in Brazil just last November, and in Vietnam in January of this year.
At the end of September 2009, the PS2 has sold 140 million units worldwide.
Oh the good old days - PlayStation 2 had so many classics in its lineup, and even ran PSone games to boot. A milestone well-deserved. Happy Birthday PS2!
So what are you favorite stories or games about the 10 year old system?

Fucking PS2... I remember my little brother had one back in my later highschool years. I let him borrow my car for his dates so I could borrow his PS2 to play by myself.

I remember the first Madden game on the Playstation 2. I think it was 2002. My dad walked in and was completely dumbfounded.
He said that he thought it was baseball season not football.

its just too bad the PS3 wont step up and become backwards compatible.

I'd bet money that that is the plan anyways. Maybe if we get software emulation we'll also get upscaled graphics (cleaner, sharper games)

My fondest Playstation 2 memory is playing Final Fantasy 10 and Devil May Cry for the first time because the two games made such leaps in graphics and game play. I bought my Playstation 2 a short while after the big PS2 Crash scare and after the price went down a little.
To rekindle those memories I think I will finally pounce on a Playstation 3 because I have been waiting for God of War III and a lot of the Playstation 3 games that got critical praise are now affordable at about thirty-bucks each.
