I was actually decent at Tekken and liked most of their characters.

Laughing Man you have written a very passionate review however I would have elaborated some of the story angles that conflict with the traditional hero and villain archetypes for several characters. For instance when you defeat the ladder as Shang Tsung the hero and villain roles of Shang Tsung and Liu Kang are unexpectedly reversed. While I would applaud the additions of moral shades of gray rather than contrasting black and white and right and wrong I feel slightly betrayed.

Thanks for the kudos MK Freak, but as for singling out particular story lines, I didn't want the review to be spoiler heavy. But I agree with some of the directions that they've taken the series: Liu Kang getting pissy about Raiden's best intentions blowing up in their faces, and Raiden being forced to kill Liu Kang???? WTF?!!! PLUS: How they've essentially killed off every MK 1-3 character except Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya. BASTARDS!!

Those are some very heavy spoilers, LM. Now I understand that reference you made to the story and how upset it must have made you. Being that you had to some extent grown up with the characters in this game series, and then murdering them so that they may never return would be similar to my own reaction to the first twenty minutes of the Transformers movie.

The characters in MK Games die and come back all the time, but what happened in the last 2 chapters of the Mortal Kombat Story Mode was damn near a complete flush of all of the old characters, where everyone dies and only a few remain. Kano is frozen in ice by cyber subzero, the majority of the MK 3 characters are killed by Sindel, Raiden kills Liu Kang, and only Johnny Cage, Sonya and Raiden are left standing at the end. So unless those three characters are your favorites, it looks like the rest aren't coming back in the inevitable Mortal Kombat 10. Of course, the minds behind Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe bypassed logic with the trite "two dimensions colliding" thing, so it wouldn't surprise me if they wave a magic wand and say "all is well".

I have discovered some interesting news that will interest those of you who bought Mortal Kombat. As you might know there are four downloadable characters being released. Skarlet and Kenshi have been released with free compatibility packs that include Mortal Kombat 3 Cyrax and Sektor costumes and classic Noob Saibot and Human Smoke costumes. The next downloadable character is the cult favorite ninja Rain but there is no word as to whether or not free costume packs will be released at the same time. The mysterious fourth downloadable character is hinted by Ed Boon's twitter post to be Tanya from Mortal Kombat 4. Tanya is seen in the arena stage if one of the fighters is Kitana or Skarlet.

Tanya?????!!!!! One of the Mortal Kombat characters I HATE... Oh well, at least there's Blind Kenchi and his cool psychic-Matrix moves. Brutal fatalities, too!

I have to resist my need to quit work early, take two weeks off, go to Home Depot and Radio Shack, spend $2000, and make one of these things for my game room...
That is the single most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's like looking at the face of God. You can't move, you can't speak, and even from the computer monitor you can feel the gentle warmth in your chest and it causes your heart to pause and it brings a tear to your eye.
Either that, or it's acid reflux from my burrito. Still a cool cab though.
