No worries, it was way before your time :P

Either way, the Wii won the argument for the same reasons you and Zimes posted. It was a fun debate though. We need more like it.

No way the debate is over. Not by a long shot.

"Why do I need a Playstation when my PC plays movies and games?" Why is the PC brought into the argument between the Wii and the Playstation? Where did you guys pull that out of your asses? It's an A and B conversation and the PC can C its way out of it. We are talking strictly Wii vs Playstation. Having a debate that includes a PC is like arguing over that a pizza is better than a hamburger and some one says 'but chinese food is best'. You cant fucking do that.

Sure a PC and the Playstation are on par but that just makes the Playstation a stronger console and a more diverse party item. Not every one in a party wants to play games. Some might want to play music or watch movies or satisfy their egos by subjecting each other to their horrible digital camera slide shows of their expensive vacations. Kind of like "Nya nya you could not go."

The Playstation 3 is a jukebox where you can download cd and mp3 music and create play lists and if you have speakers in your living room -where i would imagine most of your guests would rather be instead of in a small bedroom with your PC- you can pump out the beats and shake the house. Last time I looked the Wii did not have any way to save a music library on it.

A lot of parties have movies you can watch so why not be able to play them? Most people have dvd players which is fine but can a dvd player or a wii DOWNLOAD MOVIES for $4 each? Can they download episodes of Family Guy or anime series for people to watch if they get bored with talking to you?

If you feel like being an asshole and want to make every body feel inadequate compared to you and your cool vacations then just take the memory stick out of your digital camera and put it into the flash card reader of the Playstation and start the slideshow. You can even add music in the background to really piss people off and make your self feel like Richy Rich.

There are more party games on the wii which is fine but last time I checked my friends did not want to play lame party games like Carnival Games http://www.amazon.com/Carnival-Games-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B000QD7BBM/ref=cm_lmf_tit_3 and Order Up http://www.amazon.com/Order-Up-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B00182QCYM/ref=cm_lmf_tit_10

Dictionary definition of "party":
A social gathering for pleasure or celebration; to enjoy oneself thoroughly and without restraint.

Videogame definition of "party": Crap for babies.

It’s comforting, isn’t it? Though our hobby is famous for igniting stupid flame wars and for inspiring stubborn fanboy bias, all gamers – no matter what their console or genre preference – can agree on, and rally around, one single truth. Party games suck. Because despite their already bottom-of-the-bargain-barrel reputation, party games somehow manage to grow lamer and lamer with each new generation.

So I would rather aspire to decent games that my friends and family would actually be willing to play without feeling like some kind of special needs student matching colors. The hit at our parties is either Rock Band -available on both the Wii and Playstation- and Playstation's SingStar where we get plastered and try to sing as every one ridicules the singer.

And the Wii? I dare you to pick 5 of any of these games that you would be willing to not only play with your friends but be ballsy enough to admit that you OWN it

Image

Mario Party, Raving Rabbits, Wario Ware, Wii Sports, and
Party babiez? Lumberjack? Fashion Party? Redneck Jamboree?
Sound like titles that you can play in public and wont look like a fag in front of your peers?

Maybe the PC does win because all the Wii is doing is making you pay $20 or more for lame PC flash games that secretaries all over the planet have titled "Best game since Solitare."

At my parties I do not want only games because not every one is a gamer so the Playstation fits the bill for its ability to appeal to different tastes.

LOL!!! Nice work Alphawolf

Frightening, right? What was once the proud new home of gaming’s most beloved mascots has – over the past couple of years – devolved into a nightmarish wasteland of cheap, casual crap with lazy concepts and even lazier design. We’re not talking merely bad ports or family friendly fare here… we’re talking about super depressing stuff like Neighborhood Games, Carnival Games and Pong Toss: Frat Party Games. Sure, Mario’s still in there somewhere, but you’ll have to dig through a glut of terrifying titles like Family Party: 30 Great Games and Six Flags Fun Park to rescue him. Both Link and Samus are around, too, but right next to both Go Play Lumberjack and Go Play Circus Star.

Don’t let the familiar white packaging fool you; these things have more in common with the free PC browser apps made popular by bored receptionists everywhere than with the granddaddies of Nintendo party games, Mario Party and WarioWare. We know they’re not published by the famous company itself, but come on… whatever happened to quality control? Each of these cost a gullible, unsuspecting parent at least $20, and often much more. It’s a scam, masquerading as classic Nintendo fun.

As for blurays videos I think that cnet.com did a good unbiased review of the new format specifically saying that the picture and audio quality is outstanding unless you only have an old standard definition television and you cant see any difference.
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6463_7-6462511-2.html

And the icing on the cake and what makes the blurays the superior format is scratch resistance

I cant count how many times have i had to buy the movie Gone in 60 Seconds because i let a friend borrow it and they scratched the living hell out of it so if the movie is scratch resistant then its about damn time. also my friends dont have bluray players so i cant led my movies to them.

You want to borrow Transformers 2? I only have it on bluray. Okay. Bye.
Best of both worlds.

Psssst, Wii has a camera card reader as well.

The Bluray superiority over a DVD, while it is an interesting discussion on its own, doesn't really fit into the party system discussion. We can say that watching either one could be a factor of a party, but the inclusion of the DVD/Blu-Ray player in a discussion about the Wii and PS3 would a) defeat the purpose of getting into the heart of it, and b) would only lead to 'apples and oranges' because of the inclusion of a third factor of discussion, much like the PC. The mention of separate players came about because people may own those already, so mentioning the PS3's ability to play those may be superfluous and unnecessary to the discussion when talking about its party capabilities compared to those of the Wii.

I didn't know that the members of these forums were so rabid when it came to the piece of hardware sitting in their living rooms. I started the flame war based off of a news article I read in order to stir up some controversy and hopefully spark some intensity in this board. It is working wonders.

Some of your thinking is off base though and I am talking to all of you posters. You cant compare apples and oranges like bringing the PC into the fight or bring in comparisons with formats. Keep it on topic. What does A do better than B at a party and why.

I think that the poster with the big FUN picture made a good case with quality over quantity. There are plenty of games to pick for a party but honesty how many of them are actually FUN? I can't talk shit about Lumberjack Party or Party Babies because I never played them but chances are I never will. But I can name off the 5th awesome party game.

Fashon Party

Just kidding. It is Wii Play where you can play table hockey darts and pool.

Keep warring m8s!

Yes you did and that is why you posted this bit of flame bait. But I was stupid enough to bite.

I posted the Bluray comparison just to retort the following arguement you made earlier
KennyFarino wrote:
not to mention I'm one of those dudes who thinks that the Blu-Ray is a ridiculous concept because the difference between VHS and DVD was noticeable, and the DVD brought so many advances that would make the movie-going experience better. The Blu-Ray only presents slightly better picture and sound... huzzah? It's like the Laserdisc from years ago: it was absurdly expensive, and tried to pass off as the next new thing, but it failed some time later as the VHS still survived.
