I have taken notice that there has been a great deal of Critic hating with you chaps and am wondering what is warranting these attacks. Did he reject a video review of yours or did all of your finally come to terms that he is a mediocre internet personality?
I just feel jipped by Spooney (and those that nit-picked tf2). yes the movie was not that great but, it still needed to be seen in the theaters to actually have the feeling of giant robots kicking the crap out of each other rather than watch it on my 19 inch computer monitor in a poor quality window the size of my PSP.
in their defense yes there are some plot holes, toilet humor, too many dumb humans, as well as racist robots but, because of the artificial line in the sand of meeting so many requirements to have a movie be watchable; I am surprised that any movie makes it at all as one that would be worth watching.
bottom line is: if you have the balls to call a movie the worst of all time, you better damn well make sure it IS before opening up your man-pleaser and proving to the world that you have no clue what you are talking about.

No derailing this train of thought, zimes.
none whatsoever.

In regards to ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, I still watch and enjoy the Nostalgia Critic, but I do agree that the quality of his videos have declined. The Tank Girl review is definitely one of his worst and the Star Wars Holiday Special and Jack Frost were okay, to give some recent examples. I also think he needs to calm down on the screaming (he does it too much) and the "Chuck Norris" gag needs to be thrown out. In fact, that running gag was never funny from day one. However, I still get some laughs from the Critic and occasionally from the Bum. I've stopped watching Ask That Guy, as that show has lost all of its laughs and seems to be relying on shock humour just for the sake of.
I guess I'm in the minority who does enjoy Spoony and Nostalgia Chick. I also like the "Atop the Fourth Wall" series and "Shameful Sequels." I don't watch the other ones, not because I dislike them, but just out of lack of interest. I'm not a massive hard-core gamer, so they don't really appeal me.
However, since we're throwing around shows we despise on the site, I have to go with "Bad Movie Beatdown" and "Epic Fail." Bad Movie Beatdown could actually work, but the host is so smarmy and obnoxious that I can't stand it. If I would rather watch Monkeybone again over his review, that's not a good thing. And Epic Fail is just pointless. I don't seek out those sorts of videos on YouTube, so why would I want an un-funny commentator explaining why they're supposedly funny?
But, all in all, I do agree the site has kind of lost its potential of finding the best web-shows on the net, when it doesn't choose particularly interesting series to put on there (barring a few). The only shows I watch on that site are the afore-mentioned Nostalgia Critic, Bum Review, Spoony, Nostalgia Chick, Linkara and Shameful Sequels. I actually find more interesting videos in their forum's video review section rather than the main page (in fact, a couple of the series on my own site like DVD Talk, Radical Reviewer and Horror Corner were discovered in that section).
However, there are a couple of boards on the forum that have some intelligent people that know what they're talking about and aren't afraid to criticise the users when need-be (an autism joke in the last Critic video got a fire-storm of controversy). Something completely barren in the ass-kissing comments section on the video pages.

This was an excellent read Estafan (aka That Fellow in the Coat) It is good to see that you still have a presence here.

I think that Zimes is the only member here who despises Spoony while Laughingman and Kenny seem to enjoy his work. I actually preferred the Nostalgia Chick and Benzie until they dropped off the planet.
If the boards are not as ass-kissing as the public comments then I think there is some hope for his work
The Nostalgia Chick has actually become more frequent these past numbers of months.
Oh and I also agree with whoever said that the site would not be even close to popular as it did, had James Rolfe not replied to the Nostalgia Critic and there would not be that fued. I did find it funny when it was happening, but I'm glad they realised that they running it into the ground, as it does seem like a publicity stunt on Walker's part looking back on it.
If you look for a post on the forums that asked users how they found out about the Nostalgia Critic, about 65% of the posters say it's because of the Angry Video Game Nerd.
To be honest, even the Angry Video Game Nerd series I've kind of grown tired of, as the jokes have become rather repetitive and I don't even make until the end of the video. However, I still enjoy Rolfe's Cinemassacre series.

Welcome back, Estefan! It's been a little while since you've dropped by this madhouse of cynics, but we're glad to have you back.
Watching Master of Desguise was pure PAIN. PAIN PAIN PAIN. I watched your MoD review. I wasn't expecting you to be quite as cynical as you were, but it was a great unexpected twist. Serious sounding: "I'd like to say that the movie helped Dana Carvey's career, but... no." "They failed at making a fart joke..." LOL!
I think you do good at 'serious comedy' like English comedian Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean).
The comment about the AVGN contributing to the Critic's success is mine:
Quote:
It is also my belief that the only thing that ever made TGWTG.com successful was the feud with the Angry Video Game Nerd. If it wasn't for that shoot to fame, there wouldn't be anyone watching him. Including myself.
That's just my personal observation based on how I and several other people started watching TGWTG. It's not fact, just my theory.
As for James Rolfe, I actually still enjoy some of his work as The Nerd, though most notably during the reviews that include a lot of acting and costumes to liven up the onslaught of 4-letter-words that I'm outgrowing as well. Plus I am still a gamer at heart and I think it's fun to see some truly horrible video games that I remember torturing myself with. I am also a fan of his SpikeTV reviews, and his annual Monster Madness Halloween movie reviews.
Back to TGWTG and crew: I liked Spoony and Benzaie best. Spoony seems to have a natural comedy ala MST3K (which apparently he was trying to rip off before he 'found his true calling') and Benzaie is ... just Benzaie. He's so odd it's just hilarious. Is Benzaie's stuff dumb? Yeah, but it's at least entertaining, as the video below proves:
It's awesome that not everyone at TGWTG is a complete ass-kisser. I can't believe how if someone gives a criticism to one of the video reviews they're just SLAMMED with insults and hate comments. I'm not saying that people who actually enjoy his work are stupid, but the rabid fanboyism on the comment boxes is just NUTS. People keep saying 'this is the best review yet' and I just can't take that level of BLINDNESS. Can I make a better video? Gimme a few friends and a camcorder and I could probably beat his new reviews. Honestly. However, his early work is still good IMO. I just think he needs to give it a rest for a while.
Anybody know why there's a sudden influx of new contributors to the site? Most of the new videos I can't even sit through, so I gave up and subscribed to the YouTube Channels of the few I like. I honestly think that TGWTG.com needs to get weeded out. I would say a fan-based vote-off, but that wouldn't accomplish anything if boring/annoying members (ex: Game Heroes, Distressed Watcher, LittleMissGamer, MarzGurl, and ESPECIALLY Bad Movie Beatdown) were still left on the site.
I might have to check out the Nostalgia Critic's Ernest Saves Christmas review... and be prepared to get pissed because Ernest's slap-stick comedy in his early few movies made me laugh more than TGWTG's slap-stick (and equally annoying) comedy.
