X3 - Terran Conflict
(PC)
A colorful piece of crap, but I'm still trying to get into it
By Zimes

I know that some of you guys that have been here a while are really hoping that I would come out with the final for Last Remnant but every time I think of playing that game I think that sticking my dick in a live electrical socket would be more fun. And really the 360 is not that great of machine that I must play all my games on so I have been taking a break from it for a while.
Lately I have been playing a first person shooter online with my friends and that got me thinking about my old days at counterstrike where I use to be pretty good so I decided to go out and get a few games that might help my thirst for pixel blood. I ended up getting a few things at best buy: a gaming mouse, the Orange box (I thought CS was in there), and X3. I saw one of my bosses go out and get this when it first came out and I thought it would be great to get since it looked like an updated Freelancer (if you haven't played that game btw, go pick it up. It is a great space game with the ability to play with your friends). Little did I know that this game was written by retards, no seriously retards. I think they could have paid me to at least crap out better code for game play. I will get that to a second.
Really my game time is small. 5 to 10 hours the most and I have not been following too much of the story line. This is just a first look at X3 Terran Conflict and I plan on seeing if this game will improve with more game time. So if you have this game please PM me and let me know what I am screwing up since it is challenging just to fly the damn ship.
Every chance I get I step out of story line to go exploring new sectors of space and see what pretty things are there. And every now and then pick up a mission or two. They have done a wonderful job with the graphics that I found out that my gamming machine that would run most of the games out there is now obsolete. I bought it 7 years ago from Alienware (yes I paid too much for my t-shirt) and will never buy from them again. Even with the lowest graphical settings for that computer I was not able to run it decently so I loaded X3 Terran Conflict on my work laptop and man, it is such a pretty game. Not like smoking hot pretty like Jessica Biel but pretty like Pam Anderson. She is hot and she probably has some surprise that might make your dick fall off. So wrap your tool before playing this game. You don't know where the programmer has been!

This game is also a hog. If you are not running at least a dual-core processor, put X3 Terran Conflict back on the shelf and save for a new computer. I had one of the better and faster p4's before they went to the dual-core and this game kicks my computers ass. It's like he went into a fight thinking he could take Bruce Lee. It was not a pretty sight. I have been complaining to my wife for a new computer since I have gotten this game. So I hope that I can get a new machine here soon.
Game play sucks. I don't think there are enough negative words to put together in the English language to describe how much X3 Terran Conflict's game play sucks. It's like they have taken all the normal mouse moves and mixed them all up! And it's not like you can pause X3 Terran Conflict and fix it. No, if it is on pause and you click any button X3 Terran Conflict becomes un-paused and the ship keeps flying without anyone steering the damn thing! And even if you think you have the buttons where you want them, they will fail on you when you need them. I was in the middle of a dog fight when my shooting button refused to work. I had to reset to default button settings to get it to work again.
There is no auto save. Some one find the programmer that purposely left out that function and bitch slap him into the next decade. How the F*** do you not have an auto save in a game that every time you go through a jump gate you could die?! Really, the only time you get to save is when you dock at a station. And even then you must manually save so if you are in a hurry for a mission and forget to save: too bad, you are now boned. The sensor on your ship is broken half the time. You would think that every time you get into open space (no space clouds, or asteroids cluttering the screen) that you could scan that sector and find everything. Nope. You basically have to run your ship into space stations that will take up the whole screen just to keep it on your map so you can look at it later.

You must kiss my ass to add me to your map. It's on the far side of you and will take you 20 minutes. Get to work!
Travel is slow. Even at max speed it's like watching someone run in pudding. And thanks to the broken button settings your boost button doesn't work. You actually have to find the small button and click it on the main screen for it to work. And what's worse is that it actually speeds up time in X3 Terran Conflict so if you have 5 minutes to finish a mission and want to get there quick, don't touch that button. The boost drive is broken.
You would also think that a game that would look that pretty would also be able to be up all night with you. I played for almost 3 hours last night and the reason why I quit was that X3 Terran Conflict STOPED WORKING! The graphics plainly gave up. So, almost all three hours of playing was a complete waste. Thanks you effing cock suckers.
Well, I really haven't put enough time in this game to give up yet so I am hoping that with more game time I will be able to get better stuff. the buy/sell menu is so broken that it is almost impossible to tell if you can A) buy anything, B) I still don't know how to sell items, C) if the items you want to purchase are available for you, D) or buy anything off of the merchant ships (like if the are selling 10k of one items, you cant buy 100 if you need them for a quest).
And forget picking out what you want to be or how you want them to look. You get to pick out pre-created classes with even the sex picked out for you. They couldn't even make them pretty to look at either. The chick I am playing looks like she fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way, bounced off a trampoline at the bottom to go back up and hit the ones she missed on her way down.
This has the potential to be a really fun game. It looks like you will be able to get capital ships, wings of fighters, build space stations and mining facilities. You just have to pass the beginning of the game.

So far this is a colorful piece of crap, but since I like space games I'm still trying to get into it. If I would have known that you have to read a book (so not kidding) just to know HOW to play X3 Terran Conflict I probably would not have bought this.

It is so pretty but there still could be some work done to it and you need lots of power to run this game. |
Sound |
5.0 |
Music was annoying and I can tell that the ships automated voice is eventually going to get on my nerves. |
Gameplay |
3.0 |
Can I give a score of an explosive diarrheic crap? No? Must be a number? Ok 3. I actually fell asleep playing the game. |
Story |
7.0 |
I really can't give an honest score here since I have tried to ditch the story line to explore. So far so good and the intro make sense so I will give it an average score. It's not enough for me to insanely follow it but its not boring either. |
Replay Value |
5.0 |
Haven't completed it to tell you. If it is like I think it will be then you will have fun for some time. I just hope that they made this multi player. So it could be a 9 but, right now it's a 5. |

If you like space games and want to spend a lot of time getting to know how to play X3 Terran Conflict this could be fun for you. |

I tried to get into X3: Reunion a few times. (Install, try. Fail.
Uninstall.)
It's a big game, but the time invested at the beginning reaps huge rewards
later. If you have any questions, the egosoft/forums have one of the better
communities I have come across. This game is a little more user friendly
with cues on your next objective and such.
True, there were some bugs when it was released. I had no game stoppers,
but only one non-important mission was uncompletable (is that a word?!?)
But now the game is all patched up and if egosoft does like it did with X3:
reunion, they may take off the DRM stuff in the future to make sure you get
long lasting joy out of thier game.

First off, I know there are lots of X series gamers out there. I traveled
several different systems just to find something I could trade to make
profit. I spent several hours doing that and that was rediculous. SIM style
games are not designed this way. This game is a disgrace for the
manfacturer who made AKA "Egosoft" - "craposoft". Over 100 page manual and
3 pages worth of controls. I spent 3 days and learned most controls but
ended back where I started, nowhere but lost in space. You start out of
1000 credits and according to manual you need 1.8 million credits to build
space station. Do the math. Don't by this game. It's the worse $40 I have
ever spent!

My question to Kanuvian and Dunham (and really anyone else who bought this
game):
If this was multiplayer, would the game be worth the $40?
My answer would be yes I would be setting up a server as soon as I got this
game and would not be wasting my time on Eve.
