2001: Space Odyssey - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
... I don't know, maybe I AM over analyzing the whole movie... but that's what is so great about it. 2001 is like life or even the Bible: It's vague, but everyone can find their own meaning within it. That's why it's a masterpiece.

a-note-to-my-local-movie-theater 1 page
A note to my local movie theater - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
Am I an 'expert' in theater management? No, but I have been in many different types of theaters, from small towns in Sanders County, to the Carmike and IMAX theaters around Seattle, WA. I won't blame JUST the theater, but there's a lot to be desired with the movie-going experience here. The cost of food and drinks is ABSURD, especially for the giant boxes of candy that are 80% air and cardboard, and the stale popcorn that tastes like packing-peanuts in olive oil. If the staff is not physically absent, then they usually are mentally. But I can't complain too much about them because I never see any other employees outside of the ticket-booth attendant, the ticket-tearer-upper, and the one or two kids manning the snack shack. God forbid I actually see a cleaning crew or a few ushers. Walking through the rows of seats is an adventure in itself; navigating around the sticky puddles of spilled pop from the previous night is like transversing a minefield while wearing clown shoes. So you manage to keep your shoes clean only to finally plop into a seat and feel something seeping into your right buttcheek. Very classy.

Dead Space – Review – XBox 360, Playstation 3, PC - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
The premise of the game is that you are a virtually annonymous engineer, Isaac Clarke (named after science fiction writers Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke), of a space ship crew who has intercepted a distress call from an off-world mining station. You and your crew crash land in the docking bay of the mining station USG Ishimura, a Planet Cracker, only to find that it is derilict, save for a swarm of Necromorphs, which are probably the best-designed alien monstrosities since the original Alien design by H.R. Giger. And, like every other space shooter since Doom, it's your job to survive long enough to find either safety, or a way off the infested outpost.

Devil May Cry (PS2) Review - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
Everyone is going to hate me for saying this, but as awesome as Devil May Cry is to play, the control scheme feels ASS BACKWARDS. Square shoots and Circle attacks with the Devil Arm, which is good, but then you have Triangle jump and X open doors? What the hell is up with that? The Triangle button isn't a fucking Up Arrow, and even if there was an 'Up' button, games that require you to push 'Up' to jump suck. And having X open doors but do nothing else? X is the second most commonly used button on a Playstation controller, so why the hell was it demoted to just opening fucking doors? The first two hours of playing this game with this controller layout was just PAIN... pure and unrelenting torture that made you think that the fucking control schema was some bastard child of Satan Himself. Devil May Cry my fucking ass, The Devil is crying because he's laughing so hard, bringing misery to the masses WHILE BEING PAID BY THE PEOPLE HE'S TORTURING. Does the word “sadomasocapitalism” even exist? If not, I am putting dibs on it, patenting it, and getting paid a quarter for every time someone buys a game that brings only misery and pain. Shit, I could retire off of the Angry Video Game Nerd.

Gas, Grass, and Duck Ass - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
Trust me, the title will make more sense after you read the following: I drove 200 miles to go see my brother and his wife, and take care of a few family issues that none of you need be concerned with. Anyways... Why the hell my brother hangs around people who smoke marijuana, I have no idea. If he has ANY trace of it in his system, he can lose his job and he will have his family out on the street. As for me, I never smoked it, and never really wanted to. And now I know I will NEVER do it again. They are passing it around (even Jason takes a hit out of pressure from Chance) and they ask if I want some. Sure. If I'm gonna try it eventually, it might as well be around these three.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Review - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
It will be hard to praise everything about Higurashi no Naku Koro ni without giving away too much of the plot, but I will try to keep this review relatively spoiler-free with the exception of some MILD SPOILERS involving character motivations that will be required to explain just how ingenious Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is.

LittleBigPlanet – Review – Playstation 3 - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
LittleBigPlanet has taken video games back to their bare roots. I'm talking the simple run and jump mechanics of the first Super Mario Brothers game that most of us have enjoyed as kids. There's no button combinations to do special moves, there's no complex riddles or puzzles, there's no CGI cutscenes to bore you to death, there's no 'amazing graphics' to overshadow mediocre gameplay. Aside from the REALLY 'Old School' (ala Space Invaders and PacMan) LittleBigPlanet is gaming at its purest. And because of its simplicity, this is one of the few games that is easily approachable by anyone.

metal-gear-solid-4-guns-of-the-patriots-review 1 page
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – Review - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
You also have your usual ways of 'picking off' your enemies while avoiding detection: You can sneak up behind them and, ala Metal Gear Solid 3, rob them of supplies, use them as a human shield, choke them out, or slit their throats with your knife. You can also pick off your enemies from a distance with the silenced tranquilizer gun. I would make mention of the silenced pistol you get about a 1/2 hour into the game, but I wouldn't consider that as a 'stealth weapon' because, like all the games after Metal Gear Solid 2, KILLING your enemies leaves behind bodies for passing patrols and wandering soldiers to discover and thereby hunt you down and rape you with bullets. While in Metal Gear Solid 4, you DO have the option of running and gunning, it's really counter-productive and usually ends up with you having a siege of enemy fire that is the equivalent of earning a 4th Star in Grand Theft Auto 3. It is often better practice to use the silenced tranquilizer gun if a soldier gets too nosy, since they just fall asleep. If a sleeping soldier is found by another, he will be awoken by a kick in the gut, and both parties will go along as though nothing happened.

The Home Depot is run by IDIOTS - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
I got to Home Depot a few minutes before the appointment I've scheduled a week in advance. I go to the kitchen cabinetry section and patiently wait for the of the kitchen designer I made the appointment with to show up. Fifteen minutes after my appointment deadline I start getting the feeling that I've been brushed off. After another ten minutes of pacing between the kitchen cabinetry section and the kitchen appliances section, hoping to run into one of the 'well-educated and professional workers', I finally catch a rep from the appliances section and ask for her help locating the missing cabinetry designer I've been waiting too long for. She asks who it was and I give the designer's name and she said, She called in sick this morning.

Valkyria Chronicles Review - Playstation 3 - LaughingMan - CheshireCatStudios.com
The main story revolves around a couple of ill-fated lovers named Welkin Gunther and Alicia Melchiott. Both are drafted members of Squad 7, a militia in the Dutch-like country of Gallian. While Gunther’s father was a General in EWI (Europan War 1), his orphaned son, Welkin, is (shamefully) the stereo-typical Japanese hero: A pacifist who, both out of love for his friends and loyalty to his homeland, commandeers a machine to fight an evil empire. (Another reason I hate anime…)

The Last Remnant – Xbox 360 | Zimes - CheshireCatStudios.com
Game play SUCKS. Not just oh, it can be decent if . . Stop right there, it plain flat out is the worst game play I have ever experienced. Despite the fact that you can organize your crew into certain formations and choose if they attack with magic or combat arts: YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT YOUR CHARACTERS DO!!! Out of 25 people you would think that it would be impossible to kill you but it happens. You usually get to choose 4 types of attacks when you fight and unless you kill your opponent your moral for the entire team goes down. Which means: you miss your attack all together, you don’t hit as hard as you should, or you get jumped without being able to counter attack.

So far this is a colorful piece of crap but, since I like space games I'm still trying to get into it. If I would have known that you have to read a book (so not kidding) just to know HOW to play the game I probably would not have bought this.
