I notice something very particular when someone corrects a feminist on just about anything about feminism (the wage gap, the exaggerated rape crisis on college campuses, the patriarchy, tropes cause sexism, manspreading, everything is sexist, porn is evil, ect.). I noticed that feminists don’t care. They don’t care if they are wrong. They don’t care if their ideas are double think. They don’t care that their ideas are harmful to women. They don’t care if their ideas are harmful to men. They don’t care if their problems are so benign and small that they are a mockery of what 1st and 2nd wave feminism stood for. A feminist will always believe that women are victims, that the patriarchy is conspiring against them, and that everything is sexist in some way, shape, or form.

Frllow CCS forum member, natnatno1, made a recent Topic (link below) dressed to feminists who think porn is hurting women. As much as I would like to make her forum post necessary reading for every gender studies program (past present, & future), I feel like it would do little to sway a 3rd wave feminist. No statistic, no amount of non-correlation will be enough to change a feminist’s mind. How can a feminist know (or be willfully ignorant) about the facts, and still support 3rd wave feminism? Because it’s all about “The narrative”.

    The feminist narrative made easy:
    1. Women are victims
    2. The patriarchy is omniscient, even effecting women who think they are free & the political equal to men
    3. Everything is sexist, therefor anything can be harmful to women & everything can be fixed by listening to feminism.

You can list all the ways women are not oppressed, you can show that the 1st world is as much of a “patriarchy” as it is a “matriarchy”, and that any feminist’s nonsense is never going to fix anything & is probably just harmful to both men & women; but they still won’t change their minds. How do you crush a narrative that is so all consuming?

Feminists like to think they have a higher sense of awareness, that they can see “systems of oppression” that other people just can’t. They think they’ve had some kind of mental awakening & have opened their eyes to the patriarchy, a force that works behind the shadows, much a kin to an Eldritch god. Feminists have the same folly of conspiracy theorists, they let their biases determine what they “research” and they completely block out any facts that are inconvenient to their theory. They have closed their eyes, covered their ear, and hold their tongues about everything that challenges their feminist world view.

Sure there are some feminist who opening their eyes to the facts will make them change their minds, but it seems that the radical third wave feminist is not going to be swayed by logic. Best thing to do is try to raise philosophical awareness, such as “innocent until proven guilty” and “the “burden of proof”. The school system is failing to teach kids civics & the legal philosophy that shapes the core of our legal system(s). It’s failing to teach today’s youth critical thinking skills. We told them to trust their teachers, that the words in their text books were true, and not to question the “truth” presented to them. You can’t fix stupid, but you can at least try to get people to love wisdom & love the search for truth.
