So, in case all you know about the UN (United Nations) comes from a history book, the UN is kind of a joke. Not a “ha ha” kind, the “How does this even happen” kind of joke. I can sum up how totally incompetent, moronic, neural degenerate the UN is in one sentence “Saudi Arabia is the head of the UN’s human right’s council”. No, that isn’t a joke. Well, it’s a joke in the sense of it being a complete farce.

So, the UN had a panel where Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian talked about “Cyberviolence”. What is Cyberviolence? It’s the new Buzzword the UN made to make this look like they’re talking about something far more important that when this panel was really about. Cyberviolence includes things like hacking, doxxing, cyberstalking, revenge porn (posting private picture and videos of a former partner), and harassment. One wonders why this panel didn’t include men, considering none of these problems are faced solely by women & that some studies have men as the main recipient of harassment online. Like seriously, these problems are not a gendered issue at all.

So along with the panel also came this lovely UN report.

The report is poorly made. Most main stream media praised the report, some like the Mary Sue didn’t even bother reading it fully. Well, thank goodness for the denizens of the internet to do what the news media won’t and actually read & fact checked the blasted thing. In the report, there is a citation (not the report itself) that claims Pokemon is teaching kids to murder and D&D is a tool of the occult. Yes, some of the citations are from the era of Jack Thompson, where moral panic ran rampant. Other citation are dead links, one even linking to a disk drive file on one of the writer’s own computer. Some citations are repeated and others are self referential. The thing is a mess and I’m looking forward to people with more free time than me to look further into it. It’s a mess and I recommend you try reading it so that you don’t just get swept up in the media blind support of it.

So here’s going to be the fall out: Pro-free speech and libertarians are going to bash it to kingdom come, authoritarian progressives and authoritarian religious right are going to praise it, and most people won’t care. A lot of people are rightfully angry over the calls for censorship from the UN and the people not caring are equally validated for their apathy considering how irrelevant the UN is becoming. A lot of people are angry considering how many more pressing issues there are in the world, but I’m mostly annoyed by how flagrant sexist it is not to take note of the male victims of the exact same crimes and problems. It just really shows the UN didn’t care about solving a problem, they just wanted to continue some twisted narrative/ideology.

With this type of mentality, we are going to divide as a species. We joke about ‘men are from Mars, women from Venus’, but holy cow tacos. We

It seems the internet ate the rest of AquaJonquil’s post, and just when it was getting good.
