The 2018 Internet Purge: Patreon, Tumblr, and Internet Censorship
First they came for supplement selling internet conspiracy theorists, then they came for the patrons of YouTube’s Mesopotamian thicc edgy boi, and now they came for Fuboo’s Tumblr blog. We start 2019 by wrapping up 2018 and the year of The Internet Purge.
Fuboo, our resident fan-service artist, was recently ‘un-personed’ on Tumblr for (get this…) adult content. Yeah… Tumblr… banning people for adult content… But it’s just another cog in an alarming trend among internet companies and their questionable encroachments into free expression. Of course, it’s in the name of their financial bottom-lines, and the satisfaction of both advertisers and online payment processors.
Tumblr, Patreon, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Apple, and The People’s Republic of China; it may be 2019 but it’s starting to look a lot more like 1984… Sargon gets banned from Patreon, which cascades into a mass exodus from the likes of Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris, and Dave Rubin. The Last Night, game created by egalitarian and pro-GamerGate, Tim Sorret, is all but completely cancelled from suspected SJW backlash and threats. Creator of the Internet, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, says that Facebook, Google, and the others have too much power. And a popular Internet conspiracy theorist, “whose name shall not be said online for fear of the banhammer”, has been completely un-personed, George Orwell style.
It’s a bit of a scattershot discussion, but we hope you have fun!
